How to Maintain Rudraksha
Taking care of a Rudraksha involves regular cleaning, oiling, and storing it safely. Clean with water and a soft brush monthly, dry thoroughly in the shade, and apply oil (almond or sesame) to prevent cracking. Condition with olive or oil every 6 months to maintain strength. Store in a dry, safe place, ideally wrapped in silk, to avoid damage.
Key Care Instructions:
Cleaning: Use warm water and a soft toothbrush to remove dust and dirt from the pores of the beads.
Conditioning (Oiling): Soak the beads in olive oil, almond oil, or sesame oil for 24 hours every 6 months, or apply oil monthly to keep them nourished.
Avoid Chemicals: Do not use soap, shampoo, or chemical cleaners, as these dry out the natural oils in the bead, causing them to become brittle.
Drying: After cleaning or oiling, allow the Rudraksha to dry naturally in the shade, not in direct sunlight.
Storage: When not in use, store in a clean, dry place, ideally wrapped in silk or in a copper container.
Fragility: Do not expose the beads to high impacts or pressure, as the natural thorns can break.
Spiritual Care & Maintenance:
Energizing: Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” 11 times or perform Abhishekam to maintain the energy of the bead.
Consistency: Wear it regularly, but it is often recommended to remove it when showering (to avoid soaps) and while sleeping.
Care in Usage: If the thread breaks, restring it with a new red, yellow, or white thread.
